P3 Artist Study- Wassily Kandinsky

25th Feb 2023

Primary 3 have been studying the art of Wassily Kandinsky.

Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944) was a Russian born artist who made his name working in Germany in an art style called Expressionism.  Expressionists wanted to use art to express their feelings and emotions, usually through bold use of line and colour.

“Squares with Concentric Circles” is one of Kandinsky’s most recognisable pieces of work. He would often combine different shapes with different colours to see which felt most "right," and he would paint certain colours next to each other to see how they would play off against each other.

Primary 3 have enjoyed learning about the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky and made their own version of his famous circles picture, exploring colour and being experimental with their paint.

The children also had lots of fun creating their own 'Kandinsky Tree'. They started out by creating a bare tree with construction paper and then used coloured paper to make concentric circles (circles inside of each other). The children creatively arranged their concentric circles on their tree to produce their very own wonderful piece of Kandinsky inspired Art!

Please enjoy the video below showcasing our budding Primary 3 artists at work!
