Eat Them To Defeat Them! - Week 1 Carrots!
Dear parents,
We have signed up to take part in “Eat Them to Defeat Them” this year which runs for 5 weeks from 28.2.22 until 1.4.22.
The programme from Veg Power and ITV uses advertising and a programme in schools to encourage children to eat more vegetables with the promotion of one veg per week. This year, it will be led by a £3m TV campaign from ITV, Channel 4 and Sky Media featuring the multi award winning Eat Them To Defeat Them adverts. The advert launched during the Masked Singer on Saturday.
There are 5 themed weeks, each week has a chosen vegetable, and the children will be encouraged in the dinner hall to try the vegetable in a variety of ways.
The theme for each week is as follows:
Week 1 (28th February) – carrots
Week 2 (7th March) – peppers
Week 3 (14th March) – broccoli
Week 4 (21st March) – tomatoes
Week 5 (28th March) – peas
Carrots are rich in beta carotene which your body converts into vitamin A which is crucial for growth and maintenance of epithelial tissues – these form the lining of your important organs such as the brain, lungs and heart. This tissue also lines the skin which is your body’s first line of defence against bacteria and viruses.
Congratulations to all those children who ate some carrots today! We want even more children to join in this year's 'Eat Them To Defeat Them' campaign! The children's mission is to take down the veg, unleash their super-powers and use them themselves!
Please see a selection of our super heroes below enjoying their carrots! We hope you enjoy eating carrots at home with your children this week!
Kind regards,
Louise Quinn
