Feel Good Friday- Virtual Assembly
The theme of this week's Feel Good Friday Virtual Assembly is St. Patrick's Day!
As part of our celebration, Mrs Quinn has set the children a Feel Good Friday challenge!
The children in Key Stage 2 are being encouraged to write a Limerick!
What is a Limerick?
Limericks are one of the most fun and well-known poetic forms. No one knows for sure where the name “limerick” comes from, but most people assume it is related to the county of Limerick, in Ireland.
The reason limericks are so much fun is because they are short, rhyming, funny, and have a bouncy rhythm that makes them easy to memorize.
The Rules of Limericks
Limericks, like all poetic forms, have a set of rules that you need to follow. The rules for a limerick are fairly simple:
- They are five lines long.
- Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with one another.
- Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other.
- They have a distinctive rhythm (which I’ll explain shortly)
- They are usually funny.
Look at the example below.
Over the rainbow, Finn danced.
Leprechauns watched him, entranced.
Nibbling clover,
The world over,
Until, on their gold, he chanced.
Primary 4 have been challenged to write a St. Patrick's Day themed poem.
Primary 3 have been challenged to write a St. Patrick Fact File.
Primary 1 and 2 have been challenged to draw a St. Patrick's Day themed picture and write a caption.
Different activities have been planned for next week to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, so keep an eye on Google Classroom throughout the week!
