Feel Good Friday Virtual Assembly

25th Feb 2021

The theme of this week’s Feel Good Friday Virtual Assembly is World Book Day.

We know that reading can have significant positive impacts on children’s wellbeing. So now, more than ever we want our children to experience the joy of reading, especially during these challenging times.

At St. Mary’s we love the annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and the joy of reading. So to celebrate World Book Day, Mrs Quinn has set the children a challenge to dress up as their favourite character from a book they have read and send in a photo of themselves reading their favourite book!

World Book Day might be a little different this year, but St. Mary’s  has been working very hard to make sure that celebrations go ahead!

Mrs Poacher has organised a very exciting competition called “The Masked Reader”! The children have been challenged to view the Masked Reader video and to try and guess which member of staff is the “Masked Reader”!

Those children who guess correctly are in with a chance of winning a prize! There are 3 prizes up for grabs!  The names of the children who guess correctly will be put into a hat. There will be a prize for a Foundation Stage child, a Key Stage 1 child and a Key Stage 2 child!

This competition promises to be lots of fun and we hope you all enjoy watching “The Masked Reader” video and having a go at revealing the identity of each of the masked readers!

The teachers have posted more information about this week’s Feel Good Friday Challenge and the Masked Reader competition on Google Classroom.

Different activities have been planned for next week to celebrate World Book Day, so keep a close eye on Google Classroom throughout the week!

Celebrating World Book Day at home

This year’s World Book Day theme is ‘share a story’. We encourage the children to share a story with the people they live with. This  could include getting grandparents or other family members to read stories over video chat; setting aside a family reading time when everyone at home all read their own books or magazines; building a cosy reading den with cushions in a corner, or a sheet draped over chairs to make a tent; read a story or chapter and then act it out together.

We hope you enjoy World Book Day 2021!

Please view our Virtual Assembly below to hear more about this week’s Feel Good Friday challenge!

Keep reading everyone!
