International Maths Day in P2!
We had a fabulous day celebrating International Maths Day in school today! P2 had lots of fun today learning about weight.
We made our own scales and measured the weight of a range of objects in our classroom including “compare bears”.
We compared the weights of 3 items in our class and put in order from lightest to heaviest. We also compared the weight of sand in socks.
As part of our Maths investigations we also learned about how an item does not have to be bigger to be heavier.
We enjoyed using ICT today to enhance our learning and used the ipads to learn about weight.
We loved using the Numicon shapes to explore and investigate weight. We found out that the Numicon shapes are specially balanced to represent their value. So for example, when we placed two 4 Numicon shapes on one side of the scales and one 8 Numicon shape on the other side, IT WILL BALANCE! We had lots of fun exploring addition using the scales and Numicon.
