Last week, the ‘Irish News Young Readers’ Project launched in our Primary 7 class. The project is specifically designed to develop pupils' critical literacy skills and introduce them to the world of news.
First, the children took some time to have a look through the different sections of their paper. Then, they learnt some of the newspaper terminology and worked in pairs to label the features of their own newspaper. At the end, they played a game (boys v girls) to consolidate their learning in the form of a matching game.
The ‘Irish News Young Readers’ Project has provided a great way for the children to improve their reading and writing, as well as their talking and listening skills.
