Using Maths Manipulatives in Year 7
In Year 7 we have been using Manipulatives to help us with our learning in Maths.
What are manipulatives?
Manipulatives are tangible, physical objects that teachers use to enhance an understanding of maths. Manipulatives offer pupils a hands-on approach to learning about abstract mathematical concepts.
To make maths meaningful, to understand abstract concepts, and to become confident and competent mathematicians, pupils need to touch, see, feel and use it.
Using manipulatives can improve both mathematical understanding and mathematical language
In Year 7 we have been using a range of manipulatives including Numicon and Dienes. We have enjoyed the practical aspect of the lessons and enjoyed using our new resources!
