Outdoor Learning in P5
Primary 5 took advantage of the lovely weather last week and completed some outdoor learning lessons.
Our Numeracy focus last week was angles and direction. On Tuesday, we explored acute, obtuse and right angles. We went on an angle hunt to see where in the environment we could find right angles, for example on the lines on the playground, the drains and the goalposts. We then used chalk to draw the three different types of angles on the ground.
On Wednesday, we then learnt about compass directions and turns. To help our understanding we used the chalk again to draw the compass points on the ground. We focused on anticlockwise and clockwise turns and made right angle, quarter, half and three-quarter turns. Later in the week, we made it harder by introducing degree turns including 45, 90, 180, 270 and 360 degree turns. We used the compass points we drew to play lots of games to develop our understanding of compass turns.
