P2 loved their STEM Outdoor Learning Day!
After reading the big books The Gingerbread Man and The Three Billygoats Gruff together, P2 took to the sunny outdoors to engage in problem solving for our book characters. In carousel 1 we had to build a bridge to get the Gingerbread man over the river and away from the wicked fox. We used different materials like twigs, lego, lolly pop sticks, card, paper, straws etc to test whether they were suitable materials to build a strong bridge. We worked so hard and enjoyed it. We had some great bridges at the end which the Gingerbread Man tested out.
Carousel 2 asked us to make a raft or a boat to help the Billy Goats Gruff get over the river without the troll getting them. This was great fun. We learned that some of the materials could float on the water and some could not. So some materials made good boats and some didn't. We loved testing the boats on the water and putting the Billy Goat on top.
At carousel 3 we were making fizzy paint pictures. We made some really lovely art designs. We put some baking soda on our pages and then mixed vinegar and food colouring and sprayed that onto the page. We loved watching the baking soda interacting with the vinegar and making it all fizzy. It was great fun.
Thank you to Miss Canavan for all your help!
