P4 Outdoor Learning
Taking advantage of the fantastic weather, P4 headed out to the tarred playground to investigate direction.
P4 have been learning how the symbols N E S W NW NE SW SE continue to give guidance to travellers.
As part of the IRELAND topic, P4 have been recognising the placement of counties in relation to one another, and the province in which they are situated. Using the 8 compass points to provide guidance,
example Monaghan is North East of Cavan
Down is East of Armagh
Kerry is in South West of Ireland, etc
Drawn in chalk on the playground, were lots of 8 point compasses.
The children were following instructions and making single RIGHT angle turns to face a new direction.
To extend thinking children had to work out how many turns it took to face NE from SW, etc
