P4's Halloween Literacy
With talk of witches and vampires and magical times, we grabbed the opportunity to create some magical potions of our own in P4.
Our task began with deciding what magical powers would be best to have if you were to be a witch or wizard.
The children came up with the titles and then as a small group task, they thought about animals or objects that would already possess the ability to protect, move quickly, be almost invisible, have strength and be inteligent.
This generation of ideas was the main focus of the task, as later these would be used as part of a shopping list and later an ingredient in making a potion.
The children demonstrated the unique ingredients they selected for their personal potions through their art work by creating a bubbling, magical brew in a cauldron.
They did a superb job in all parts of this task.
As Halloween madness continued, P4 class set about producing and editing a fantastic selection of poems.
Our lovely children generated lots of halloween and bonfire themed words ( nouns). They added describing words (adjectives) and a word bank work sheet was created.
Using individual paper rectangles displaying each word, the children chose their words and created a simple poem.
They were encouraged to rearrange some of these words where the WILF was to create longer more visual statements.
Each group was then asked to choose their 2 favourite statements.
These were all placed and arranged to produce our final draft Halloween poem.
The children certainly did not disappoint creating a fabulously visual poem for everyone to enjoy.
