P6 Outdoor STEM Day
Our P6s showcased their skills as scientists during our recent outdoor STEM day activities. We carried out an investigation into how water is transported within a plant, and how long it takes. First, students took some food colouring and mixed it with water. Then, students selected some celery to place in this coloured water, we decided to choose celery plants with leaves and without leaves. Students then made predictions about which plant would transport water better, the celery with leaves or without leaves. We placed them in the beakers of coloured water and observed what happened. Later in the day we checked in on our plants and found that they had started to change colour! We noticed that the plants with leaves had changed colour more, meaning they were better at transporting the water. We also broke the celery in half and could find the xylem, which had transported the coloured water through the plant. Such amazing investigating by the P6s, well done!
