Peter's Retirement

21st Jun 2024

Today, we welcomed Mr Peter Goan, our highly esteemed bus driver to St Mary’s, to mark his retirement.

For over 35 years, Peter has been driving our boys and girls to and from school, to swimming lessons, sports events, the chapel, the Community Centre and to a wide range of locations on educational visits.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Peter for his commitment and dedication to looking after all the boys and girls, and for all his care and kindness shown to children and staff alike. Nothing was ever a bother to Peter and he was always at the ready even at short notice.

Peter knew every child by name and his warm smile and friendly greetings made everyone’s day brighter! Peter will be sorely missed by everyone at St Mary’s!

This morning, we held a very special Assembly to mark Peter’s retirement. Our head girl, Casidhe-Mae Mallon presented Peter with some gifts as a token of our appreciation for everything he has done for the children in St Mary’s. This included a ‘Snowy Mespilus’ ornamental tree for Peter to plant in his lovely garden at home.

As you move on to the next chapter of your life Peter, we want you to know how much your service has meant to us. You have been more than just a bus driver; you have been a part of our school community. The memories of your cheerful greetings and thoughtful conversations will stay with us. You have made a lasting impact on everyone in our school community.

As you retire, please know that your contributions have been greatly appreciated. Your kindness and gentle nature will never be forgotten.

On behalf of our whole school community, we would like to wish Peter a very healthy and happy retirement!
