Project Stratum Broadband Initiative
Please find below a letter from Adrian McCreesh, Chief Executive, Mid Ulster District Council, regarding a new broadband initiative.
Many people in Mid Ulster are not included on Project Stratum’s “white list” or indeed the new Project Stratum Hyperfast NI website which provides a post code checker to let you see if and when your premises will benefit from improved broadband services.
If any organisation, business or household is unable to receive a 30megabit broadband service, they should complete the survey via the link below and return it to Mid Ulster District Council no later than Monday 8 March 2021.
Dear Stakeholder
You may have heard about a new broadband initiative designed to provide upgraded broadband services to residents and businesses in Northern Ireland, focused mainly on the rural areas. The initiative is known as Project Stratum. The scheme is being managed by the Department for the Economy (DfE) Telecoms Branch. Fibrus has been appointed as the delivery partner. The scheme will provide a full fibre connection to over 12,000 premises in the Mid Ulster District who cannot currently receive a 30 megabit (mbps) connection.
DfE has published a list of “white postcodes” which they have identified as the areas to benefit from Project Stratum, ie, cannot currently receive a 30mbps download speed. It has become apparent however, at this early stage that many people in Mid Ulster are not included on Project Stratum’s “white list” or indeed the new Project Stratum Hyperfast NI website which provides a post code checker to let you see if and when your premises will benefit from improved broadband services.
If you are a business or resident who cannot currently receive 30mbps then Mid Ulster District Council needs to urgently hear from you. Council requires you to carry out two checks;
Check 1 – Is your postcode on DfE’s white list? (Check by viewing the list at https://bit.ly/2XAQIPp )
Check 2 - Is your postcode included on the new Project Stratum’s Hyperfast Broadband website? (Check by typing your postcode into the “postcode checker” at
https://hyperfastni.com/
If your answer is yes to both questions above, you don’t need to do anything more.
If your answer is no, and you are not included on one or both of the links provided above and can’t currently receive a 30mbps broadband download speed, then Mid Ulster District Council requires you to complete the short survey at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ProjectStratumBroadband on or before Monday 8th March 2021.
Council will collate this data and share it with the Department for the Economy and Fibrus to inform and lobby for your postcode to be included under the Project Stratum rollout.
If you require any assistance in completing the survey or require a hard copy of the survey to be posted to you, please contact Colin McKenna at Mob: 07920 466141
or Oliver Donnelly Mob: 075000 38931
Thank you in anticipation.
Regards,
Adrian McCreesh
