St Mary's School Council

11th Oct 2024

Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives. A school council is a formal group of pupils within a school who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views.

At St Mary's we feel that the voice of the pupil is of utmost importance.  They help to make decisions about how the school is run and take on projects that support the children's learning and development.   A school council can provide a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions which impact upon them.

This year Jake, Chloe, Tommy and Ayna have been elected from P7,  Ryan and Chloe from P6, Maeve and Declan from P5 and Isla and James from P4.  We have a strong team who are willing to get to work!
