Thank you “Little Hands”!
Every October, the world marks Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
This event celebrates each unique and individual person with Down Syndrome and works to raise awareness - tackling stereotypes and myths surrounding the syndrome.
Today we welcomed Ailís and Andrew from “Little Hands” to St Mary’s Primary School.
We were delighted to receive the storybooks kindly donated by Ailís and Andrew.
We know the boys and girls in St Mary’s will love reading the new storybook “Harper the Confidence Fairy”.
Harper is the first fairy with Down syndrome. She uses makaton, wears funky glasses, and her magical power is collecting treasures and spreading self-confidence to all she meets!
Our school ethos revolves around values such as respect and inclusion and the message of accepting differences and respecting each other is a strong theme throughout the book.
It’s cool to be different!
